

| Position Description: Under the general
direction of the Associate University Librarian, Sciences, for the University of
California, San Diego Libraries, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library
Director plans, develops, manages, and evaluates the Library's services,
collections, operations and facilities. Functions as primary liaison between
the Library and Scripps faculty and administration and has lead responsibility
for developing innovative services. Is responsible for organizational and
personnel planning for staffing. Takes lead responsibility for collection
development, digital library endeavors, technical services, and departmental computing support. Provides
backup reference service.

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library is one of the largest
marine science libraries in the world.
The Library's collection emphasizes oceanography, marine biology, marine
geology, marine technology, geophysics, and climatology with extensive resources
in ecology, zoology, fisheries, & seismology. Scripps Library has an outstanding
collection of expedition reports and a large map collection focused on
hydrographic / bathymetric charts.
