Position Description: Under the general
direction of an Associate University Librarian for the University of
California, San Diego Libraries, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library
Director plans, develops, manages, and evaluates the Library's services,
collections, operations and facilities. Functions as primary liaison between
the Library and Scripps faculty and administration and has lead responsibility
for developing innovative services. Is responsible for organizational and
personnel planning for staffing. Takes lead responsibility for collection
development, digital library endeavors, technical services, and departmental computing support. Provides
backup reference service.

About SIO Library:
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library was the largest
marine science library in the world, and closed Summer 2012.
The Library's collection emphasized oceanography, marine biology, marine
geology, marine technology, geophysics, and climatology with extensive resources
in ecology, zoology, fisheries, & seismology. Scripps Library had an outstanding
collection of expedition reports, a large map collection focused on
hydrographic / bathymetric charts, and an historical archives on the history of Scripps and oceanography.
